DAYS OF OPERATION: TUESDAY & FRIDAY
Day 1 - Arrival & Paddling Canoe
The journey begins at “El Puente del Cuyabeno” at 10:30 am, the main entrance to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Before heading down the Cuyabeno River by motorized canoe for about 2.5 hours to Nicky Amazon Lodge. Along the way, we may spot monkeys and birds. On arrival, enjoy a welcome cocktail, room assignment, and some time to relax before lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a canoe trip along the river to observe wildlife such as monkeys, macaws, toucans, sloths, and pink dolphins. Before dinner, we’ll go on a night hike to spot spiders, insects, snakes, and frogs.
Day 2 - Jungle Walk & Laguna Grande
In the early morning, we’ll search for monkeys and birds in the rainforest, then return to the lodge for breakfast. After a brief rest, we’ll head out on a jungle hike where our guide will share insights about local flora and ecosystems. We might see butterflies, toads, and birds along the way. Back at the lodge, we’ll have lunch and time to relax, swim, play soccer, or enjoy nature.
Later, we’ll head to Laguna Grande, a 30-minute canoe ride away, to explore the ‘Igapó’ flooded forest. You can swim in the calm waters and enjoy the Amazonian sunset. As night falls, we’ll observe nocturnal wildlife like bats and caimans before returning to the lodge for dinner, where our guide will brief us on the next day’s activities.
Day 3 - Visit Seoqueya Community
Early in the morning we will go bird watching by canoe, paddling and appreciating the local fauna. Afterwards, we return to the lodge for breakfast. Afterwards, we visit the Siona indigenous community, participating in the cassava harvest and the preparation of “Cassave”, typical bread of the region, while learning about their customs and traditions. We have lunch with the community. Return to the lodge to rest. In the afternoon we take a walk in the jungle to observe insects, spiders and tree frogs. Dinner.
Day 4 - Paddling Conoe
In the morning, we’ll go birdwatching along the river by canoe, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Later, we’ll paddle through the jungle, enjoying the scenery and jungle sounds while searching for exotic species. Our guide will share insights on the medicinal uses of plants. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, we’ll canoe along the Cuyabeno River to look for pink dolphins. Dinner follows.
Day 5 - Paddling & Return to Quito
Early in the morning we will take a short canoe excursion to observe wildlife. After breakfast, we will pack and check-out at 08:00 am.
We’ll receive a farewell snack for the return to El Puente de Cuyabeno, arriving at approximately 10:30 am, where a private bus will take us back to Quito.
IMPORTANT
- If you want to return by public bus you can do it, you must take a bus from the Cuyabeno Bridge to Lago Agrio and from there take the bus back to Quito, this bus passes through the bridge every hour.
- All routes and programs are subject to change without prior notice due to reserve regulations, weather conditions, natural events, seasonal changes or security reasons. Flexibility is the key to the success of every tour. The safety of our passengers is our top priority.
- The activities might seem repetitive in this excursion, but the rainforest is unpredictable, and something could always surprise us.
INCLUDES
- Motorized canoe transportation IN/OUT from El Puente de Cuyabeno to the Lodge and from the Lodge to El Puente de Cuyabeno.
- Welcome and farewell cocktail.
- Lodging in comfortable rooms with private bathroom and hot water shower.
- Complete meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner); vegetarian or vegan menus as required. Snacks before afternoon activities.
- Coffee station, purified water, coffee and tea are always available.
- Guided tours with bilingual (English and Spanish) certified naturalist guides during all excursions.
- Life jackets and rubber boots (up to size 48).
